Founders Note
I built OpenWhen App after a realisation I couldn’t ignore.
Like most parents, I had thousands of photos of my children - first steps, birthdays, everyday magic. But one day it struck me: if I were no longer here, they would have some images of me… yet so few recordings of my voice telling them how deeply I love them. So few moments where I could speak directly into their future.
That thought unsettled me.
Around the same time, a close friend passed away. Watching his family navigate life without him was heartbreaking. I kept thinking about all the unspoken moments - the advice he would have given, the reassurance he would have offered, the pride he would have expressed. So much love and wisdom simply lost to time.
And I knew I didn’t want that for my children.
If something ever happened to me, I want them to know that Mama thought ahead. That I had words for them on their first day of high school. On their 21st birthday. When they fall in love for the first time. When they face the biggest decision of their lives. The day they become a parent themselves.
I want them to hear my voice. To feel my presence. To know I was thinking of them long before the moment arrived.
Because one day will come when those words matter more than anything. And when it does, I want them to have something real to hold on top - not just pictures, but me.
